Kathmandu, 5 June, 2015: For most adults future seems to mean 20, 30 or even 40 years. But for us children 2100 AD is still in our lifetime. For adults it is academic question whether the sea level rises 1, 2 or 7 meters until the end of this century but for many of us it is a question of survival.
To share the message to over a million children all over the world, a Plant-for-the-Planet academy with 60 students from 8 schools of Kathmandu Valley was organized. The Academy moderated by Global Youth Board (2015/2016) of Plant-for-the-Planet; Sudeep Ghimire along with Ambassador Samipya Basyal was organized by Apple International School, Tinkune.
Moderators begun the academy describing why is it unfair that people living in countries most endangered by global warming while they are also the ones least responsible for causing it. We know planting trees alone is not going to save our future, so we came up with the following three-point-plan to save our future:
- Leave fossil fuels on the ground by 2050 (All technology for CO2Â – free-lifestyles exists)
- Poverty into the museum through climate justice by 2050
- Plant 1,000 billion trees by 2020 (it is just 150 trees per head)
To achieve the three-point-plan we organize academies where children learn to become Climate Justice Ambassador and youths the Future Lobbyists. In the past years, we have educated more than 20 thousand children to become climate justice ambassadors all over the world.Â
Participants worked in school groups and prepared their future plans and declared tree goal at the end of the Academy. The Principal of Apple International School, Mr. Dinanath Mainali addressed the closing remarks and distributed certificates to the participants. The program was followed by cultural shows by the participants at the end.
