Kathmandu, May 5, 2018 : Bikas Udhyami’s Nepal in Data Initiative launched the beta-version of its Geo-Profile containing key data for each of the 7 provinces and 753 local bodies. The Geo-Profile which was launched at Patan on May 3rd, allows users to select national, provincial and local level data, and also obtain an overview of key data based on a wide range of indicators related to demography, economy, agriculture, industry, health, education etc.

The Geo-Profile is accessible under three sections : Country Profile, Province Profile and Local level Profile .

According to the press statement released by Bikas Udhyami, users can opt to select specific indicators themselves as well as to compare different provinces and municipalities with each other to assess the development scenario.

The data can be visualized in graph and table format to facilitate easy analysis and can be downloaded for use as CSV and JPEG file. They are also planning on adding features such as provincial and municipal overview page and more data will be added in the next coming weeks, said the statement.

Through the Geo-Profile, the Nepal in Data Initiative aims to support federal, provincial and local governments by making relevant data accessible so they that they can use it in their planning and decision-making processes. The initiative also hopes that the data will enable citizens to track local development progress and participate in these processes.

The data were collected from and computed from various official government data sources such as Central Bureau of Statistics, Nepal Rastra Bank, Ministry of Finance and others over the last year.

The Geo-Profile page was conceptualized and developed by Bikas Udhyami and has been made possible with the financial support of The Australian Government’s Strategic Partnership with The Asia Foundation to promote subnational governance.
