Text book shortage in Dolpa

Jajarkot, 19 March, 2015 :  Students in the lower belt of the Dolpa district have to go to their schools without textbooks even after two months of the beginning of the new academic session following the shortage of textbooks in the district.

Principal Jay Bahadur Basnet of Tripura Secondary School, Kaigaun, said the students have been taking their classes without books in around two dozens of schools in Rimi, Kaigaun, Sarmi, Narka, Kalika, and Lahan following the text book shortage.

The textbooks were not transported to the villages after the distribution agents refused to transport them citing the transport cost was three fold high as compared to the transport fare provided by the Janak Education Materials Centre. The JEMC has its only dealer in the district headquarters.

Different five agents had supplied the books in the villages last year but they refused to work as they were not paid the transport fare of the last academic session till the date.

One needs to manage seven-day time to reach the lower Dolpa and return to the Dolpa district headquarters.

Meanwhile, District Education Officer Samunnamukhi Acharya has said problems have been created as no agents were ready to supply the book in the villages as they were failed to be paid their old dues. It will be managed soon, Acharya said.
