An Inaruwa based teenager’s relentless efforts to transform her society – story of Albina Prawin

16-year-old Albina Parwin is a new generation girl and a change agent of her community that belongs to Muslim religion. Currently a twelfth grader at Sunsari Multiple Campus, Inaruwa, she is associated with a locally established social organization named Babiya Young Women Organization as a Secretary.

Supported by Plan International Nepal, her organization is working in awareness and girl empowerment, lobbying and advocating with government agencies to establish their basic rights for proper health, nutrition and various other basic needs.

As the secretary of the organization, Albina has been educating, training and strengthening the adolescent girls and young women, people with disability and minority category people about social and domestic violence, child trafficking and early marriage and about the sexual and reproductive health and rights of women of Muslim religion towards prosperous and better future to be the active and responsible citizens.

“Personally, I am establishing my organization as one of the best social organization to deal with any kind of issues of children and women of my society and region,” she shares to Glocal Khabar.

Albina feels that the courage to be in a social organization despite threats, and being able to bring changes to her society is what makes her happy and satisfied.

She is of strong belief that, ‘If I can raise voice, I can raise traditional barrier of injustice, behind which a girl as a new born, child, adolescent and women are suffering and suffocating in the patriarchal world.’

Albina has showed her courage to be in the social organization despite threats just for belonging to a Muslim family, and now she is able to bring changes to her own society regarding to awareness towards health, education and establishing rights of underprivileged and differently abled person. “Above all, I have fought against inhumanity, unnatural and unconstitutional elements deeply rooted inside human being to bring about happiness and satisfaction, peace and prosperity to an individual,” she expresses.

In the duration of next 5 years, Albina is determined to see herself as a successful social worker, a role model and an Angel from Inaruwa spreading love and lights of knowledge, power and integrity to combat discrimination, violence and social stigma, cultural beliefs in the entire nation. “By that time, I would be establishing my name Albina – another name to be Mother Teresa, Anuradha Koirala, Pushpa Basnet, Bidhya Bhandari etc.,” she shares with determination.

Her work is an exemplary one in her society.

Albina Prawin was selected as one of the top 6 candidates for Glocal Teen Hero 2017 through a rigorous selection process. An interview round with the respected jury panel and SMS voting will select the Glocal Teen Hero – The Fantastic Teen for this year.
