Kukur Tihar

Kathmandu, October 18, 2017: Kukur Tihar, the second day of the Tihar festival, is being observed across the country on Wednesday worshiping dogs.

According to Hindu myths, the dog is regarded as the guard of Yamaraj, the god of death.

On the occasion, devotees worship dogs and offer them garland, tika and delicious food.

This is the second day of the five-day Yamapanchak festival while the third is Gai Tihar and Laxmi Pooja (worship of the cows and Goddess Laxmi).

Likewise, the fourth day is observed as Goru Pooja (worship of the oxen), and Mha Pooja (worship of own soul) in the Newar community.

Bhai Tika, the fifth day, is the main day of Tihar festival.
