Girls Conference concludes in Nawalparasi issuing 34-points declaration

Aim to make Nepal child-marriage-free nation by 2030

Devchuli (Nawalparasi), October 29, 2017: A two-days-long girls’ conference has concluded at Daldale of Nawalparasi on Saturday, October 28 issuing a 34-points declaration.

The conference was held on the occasion of International Day of Girl Child and raised concerns that no girls should suffer from the violence of any kind including rape, misbehavior, and trafficking, and asked for proper implementation of laws to punish the culprits of crimes.

The conference also sought for meaningful participation of girls in civil forums, school management committees, health management committees, village, municipal and district councils, and other local government bodies.

The conference also asked for the implementation of government’s plan of making Nepal child-marriage free nation by 2030, and eliminating dowry system.

Likewise, the program also sought the provision of separate toilets for girls in schools that are equipped with sanitary pad disposal system, along with the availability of sanitary pads at the periods.

Similarly, the conference also demanded stringent punishment to those who publish defamatory photographs of girls in social media and internet.

Issuing a working paper on the occasion, journalist Bidrohi Giri shared how child-club members’ role should be vital to make child-friendly local governance campaign successful.

The program was held at Daldale of Devchuli Municipality, the place where Nepal’s first child club was established, also where Child-friendly local governance was implemented for the first time in Nepal.

The conference was organized by Jagriti Child and Youth Concern Nepal (JCYCN) in collaboration with The Garden Hope Foundation, Asian Child Campaign Consortium, Child Nepal, Global Action, various non-government organizations, child-clubs and media.
