Kathmandu, May 16, 2015: The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) has announced financial aid worth 85 million Swiss Francs to Nepal to support earthquake-victims.

Elhadj As Sy, the Secretary General of IFRC, made an announcement of the aid to Nepal in a press conference held in Kathmandu, Nepal on Saturday. Secretary General Sy is on a visit to Nepal following the April 25 quake.

The assistance to Nepal will be for the re-construction of the physical infrastructures ravaged by the 7.6 Richter scale quake and recurring powerful aftershocks.

Stating that a huge amount was needed to Nepal for the reconstruction of the damaged infrastructures, the Secretary General pledged emergency assistance on the behalf of IFRC.

He also shared that the IFRC would further appeal with its 189 member countries to help build shelters for those who lost their houses to the quake.
