Kathmandu, August 8, 2018: International BP Championship is the fourth edition of Debate Network Nepal’s flagship debate championship aiming to provide a platform for young debaters to participate in international level debating in Nepal. The championship is co-organized by Debate Network Nepal and Xavier Academy, Lazimpat, Kathmandu from 10th to 13th August, 2018. This is the second time these institutions have co-organized the same event.
The 4 day event consists of intensive training and debating in British Parliamentary Format of Debating. The main objective of the event is to empower youth and strengthen their quantitative and qualitative presence in debate community through debate training and competition focused on different current issues and debatable topics. 60 teams from all over and outside the country will participate in the grand event in the categories of English Opens, English Novice, and Nepali Category. Each team comprises of two members and debate in British Parliamentary format where the debate lasts for an hour, where four-two member teams, divided in two sides – government and opposition, defend and oppose a motion or a debate topic respectively.
As the members of the adjudication core, we have Mr. Aaqib Farhan Hossain, Mr. Adel Mostaque Ahmed from IBA DU, from IUB, Mr. Pawan Adhikari from TU, Mr. Milan Bishwakarma from TU, Ms. Nishma Gautam from TU, Mr. Poshan Khanal from Jacobs University, and Mr. Saurav Bhatta from TU.
The tournament director of MahaSangram 2018, Ms. Alisha Bade Shrestha says, “Looking forward to the the ultimate battle MahaSangram between the best teams in the circuit. I am extremely thrilled to be part of this amazing committee and to see MahaSangram 2018 coming to life!”
MahaSangram 2017 witnessed the winners as Team Agrios Yogi in the opens category, Team Rato Bangala School in the English schools category, and Team St. Xavier’s College in the Nepali category.
