Kathmandu, October 3, 2016: The national convention of girl children has kick startedÂ in Dhulikhel today. Being held with the slogan â€˜Girl Children in Leadershipâ€™, the convention will run for 2 days and will see a discussion to solve the problems of child-marriage, domestic labor, trafficking, detection of fetal gender and abortion among others, prevalent in our society.
The convention will raise a strong voice for formulating the laws against the child-marriage and the rising sexual violence against them along with that on the girls-friendly education and health facilities, said Monika Ranabhat, President of National Girls Network Nepal.
â€œThe participants from the programme, organized on the occasion of the International Day of the Girl Child (October 11), will present Childrenâ€™s Parliament in the office of the President of Nepal, on October 5,â€ informed Ranabhat.
In the parliament, girls themselves will play the role of the President, Speaker, MPs and the government representatives. The girl â€˜Presidentâ€™ will present the policies and programmes outlining the programme in the Childrenâ€™s Parliament. The parliamentÂ is being heldÂ to encourage the girls to take the lead in each sector and give a message that girls are capable enough to take the lead, along with drawing the attention of the concerned authorities towards the issues of girls.
40 girl children and teens from 20 different districts are participating in the programme.
