Vienna, August 10, 2016: A Nepalese man and his Romanian bride-to-be went to a marriage registrar in an Austrian town but instead of rings of matrimony they got the handcuffs.

When the couple arrived at the registrar’s office to tie the knot, there was a little linguistic hiccup. The man and his would-be bride apparently could not understand each other which triggered suspicion.

The incident reportedly took place in the town of Moedling, south of Vienna.

The Nepalese man and the Romanian woman were accompanied by another couple (Hungarian woman with a Tunisian man) who were also seeking to register their marriage. All four are currently under detention, it is understood.

Police determined that the four were seeking bogus marriages that would have given the men a better chance of settling in the EU through wives who come from EU-member nations.

Names of all four individuals have not been made public per Austria’s privacy laws.
