Surkhet, September 11, 2016: “The days of fetching water from the source spending hours has gone now. Getting water in own premise is like a dream came true,” with full of tears, Binishara Lamichanne, shared her happiness when the locals of Gadhi and Lekhnath Village Development Committee(VDC) of Surkhet district got an easy access to water.

Despite the commitment from powerful leaders to provide easy access to water 35 years back, locals had no respite in lack of implementation of those commitments. With the inauguration of ‘Lifting system based Drinking Water Supply Scheme’ on 27 August, locals’ dream of drinking water supply has been fulfilled.

The new drinking water has not only eased in the daily household chores, but has encouraged locals to expand their business as well. “In the past, most of the time used to be spent in fetching water, but now I can take professional cook training and improve my hotel business,” says Ms. Khagisara Adhikari, a hotelier in the village.

Lauding the joint efforts of communities for working to resolve the water crisis, Local Development Officer Mr. Hiralal Regmi asked the locals have to conserve and maintain the new drinking water source.

The water to both the VDCs is accessible through lifting process. In Lekhgaun VDC, water from the main source (Dharapani Khanepani Muhan) is collected and being lifted up which has benefitted 640 communities. And in Gandhi, 294 households have access to drinking water after lifting from Chandane.
