Prashansha KC: a Young Film Maker and Vlogger

Prashansha KC, 17, describes herself as a patient and enthusiastic YouTuber, Filmmaker, Social Activist and Poetess who loves to be creative and make people happy through her vlogs. In addition, she educate, aware, encourage and inspire viewers online.

Currently, she is working on filming and editing YouTube videos. In addition, she is planning and designing a project called ‘A Word A Step Ahead’ which is an educational project for the students of Mid-Western part of Nepal. In this project, she along with her team are going to teach English, Literature, leadership qualities and mass speaking to students. On September 2017, she, on the behalf of “World Experience Foundation” initiated and completed a project named “Eradication of Kidnap Marriage” to spread awareness against kidnap marriage and child for 21 days in Rukum. She also taught English to government school students in Rukum.

Starting of her journey

Asking her on how she started her journey, she said, “It all started when I went to cut grass with my grandmother last September in Rukum. While we were cutting grass, she started to sing a native folk song which was amazing. With lyrics so deep and mesmerizing, I realized what we have is beautiful. These songs deserved to be put in spot light. So, it was that moment when I realized that I’m going to make it all seen through my films. I started making videos one and half years ago. I have always believed that I have something creative which I need to utilize in my life. Apart from that, I think I had lived long enough to realize that it is only creativity that makes me stand out of the crowd. Then took my camera and started to direct, film, narrate, edit, and write script all on my own,” she adds.

Making a difference

Asking her the kind of video she posts and it’s impact, she said, “I am really into making people happy through them”.  Few months ago, she posted two documentaries based on the awareness campaign against child marriage and kidnap marriage and also conducted seminars related with self-defense and leadership in Rukum. Those documentaries are also transferred message to youth that instead of watching movies and series in their holidays they can help others and make positive change. “Also, I am changing the perception of people by making them realize what they have in there hand(camera) and an idea which change bring some change in the society by making an awareness”, she says.

A step towards teen hero

Asking her on what made her apply for Wai Wai Glocal Teen Hero 2018, she said, “Glocal teen hero is a platform for me to present my work. It matters to me because in  Maachhimi, Dopai, Chautara and Kaulchaura, our campaign was the first awareness program against Child Marriage and kidnap Marriage that was conducted there despite having so many victims of these marriages. Districts like Rukum are overlooked. Hence, I want to inform and encourage concern INGOs and NGOs to take serious actions to bring changes and increase quality of life of the people there. Therefore, I am hopeful that ‘Glocal Teen hero’ can help me do so.”

Having creative control, as well as carrying out the whole process herself– shooting, editing and post-production – of all her videos are inspiring.  She follows a career path of her own choosing and does what is necessary to succeed. She is a hard-working girl, who edits her video till 2 AM in the morning for straight 6 hours in spite of knowing the fact that she has to wake up at 6 AM to go school.
