‘Age is a matter of feeling not of years’, this quote has highly stimulated this dynamic youth to be the change , rather than waiting for the right age to make a change. Sudarshan Subedi is a 19 year old teenager who is the co-founder of Nepal Eco Club that takes initiation for addressing the world about the exploration of methods and techniques for making human life sustainable by reducing the problems of global warming incorporating different national and international workshops, seminars and interactive programs.

He is also the School Ambassador of British Council, Event Manager of Pacific Event Management, ECA Manager of Himalayan White House International College and Consultant in Little Flower School . Recipient of  various awards such as International Cultural Ambassador from The Global Office of Ukraine , Sudarshan is pursuing his BBA from People’s Campus at Thamel.

Starting of his journey

Sudarshan expressed that he used to be a docile student till grade 5. Once he was about to fail the Nepali exam due to which he started getting lots of tantrums from his relatives. It was then he decided to take such criticism as a driving force and started working hard due to which he bagged the top position every year since after. He mentions that this incident made him realized that in order to reach the finishing line, one must lead from the starting point . Since that day, he has been grabbing all the opportunities and is actively participating in every clubs possible.

He mentions,‘Getting actively engaged in these many clubs had gradually built my confidence and expanded my networking circle. I got chance to work with many great mentors and visited many places where I was introduced about the need of youth volunteering to bring change in both environment and society. I myself started to initiate many programs such as leadership trainings and skills workshop in order to train our young workforce. I was lucky enough to represent my country in Ukraine where we discussed about the scenario and best improving methods of Nepalese educational curriculum in the global market”.

Making a difference

The massive earthquake of 2072 that hit Nepal gave Sudarshan an insight about the need of volunteerism. Witnessing so many victims out of reach from the general medical assistance and shelter, he decided to help them by forming a group of volunteers named Naxal Group. With this group, he managed to serve more than 3000 earthquake victims back in 2015 and visited 7 districts with medical assistance and relief materials.

He also shared one of his unforgettable moments during post earthquake where he treated a young girl crying and bleeding heavily from her forehead when the situation was full of chaos.

Likewise, his Eco Club is currently providing different awareness programme about the methods of 3 R’s (Reduce,Reuse, Recycle). He has also launched several community cleanliness campaigns with the collaboration of  local authority. Likewise, his team collects the recyclable goods in a bulk that is sold to different waste management clubs in exchange with numbers of small saplings for afforestation.

A step towards teen hero

Sudarshan  had been planning to apply in the Glocal’s 20under20 since last year but couldn’t apply due to another overlapping contest. He said,”Finally after so much of hard work and dedication, I could apply this year and currently my happiness has no limit to be in the Glocal’s 20under20 of Wai Wai Glocal Teen Hero 2018. Now I feel more responsible to work harder and inspire more teenagers.”

Giving back to the community creates a virtuous cycle that makes everyone happy and content. Sudarshan is such example who believes that you are never too young to give back to the society neither you are too limited to expand your ambitions and dreams.

Just one must me positive and have the attitude to progress.
