Thapathali Campus wins IOE ROBOCON-2018

Lalitpur, February 22, 2018: Thapathali Campus has won the ‘IoE ROBOCON- 2018’ organized by The Centre for Applied Research and Development (CARD), Institute of Engineering on February 17, 2018, at Army Physical Training and Fitness Centre, Rajdal Battalion, Lagankhel.

Team Thapathali has bagged the cash prize of two lakhs along with ‘Grand Prix Award’. The runner-up team from Western Regional College was awarded with ‘Best Idea Award’ and fifty thousand cash prize.

Altogether nine teams from various colleges participated in the competition. The teams were from Advance College of Engineering and Management, Khwopa Engineering College, Kathmandu Engineering College, Thapathali Campus, Sagarmatha Engineering College, Western Regional Campus, Eastern Regional Campus and Everest Engineering and Management College.

The theme of the competition was ‘Ujyalo Nepal’. Each team had to build two robots- a Carrier Robot (CaR) and a Cleaning Robot (CleaR). CaR had to carry CleaR to SolaR Farm Zone and Street Light Zone after going through Switch Zone and clean the panels and achieve a fully glowing lamp at the end.

The competition had three rounds: league match, knock-out round, and final round. Nine matches were conducted in the league match where Western Regional Campus, Khwopa Engineering College and Advance College of Engineering and Management won the match and made their way to the knock-out round. Thapathali Campus team got the wild card entry in the knock-out round.

In the knock-out round, Thapathali Campus won over Advance College of Engineering and Management. Likewise, Western Regional College won over Khwopa Engineering College and made its way to final round.

Kathmandu Engineering College won the ‘Best Engineering Award’, Advance College of Engineering and Management won ‘Best Discipline Award’ and Khwopa Engineering College won the ‘People’s Choice Award’.

IoE ROBOCON 2018 was organized with an aim to raise awareness regarding constant cleansing of the solar panel for the maximum energy that can be harnessed from it.
