Kathmandu, February 22, 2018: National Trust for Nature Conservation with coordination and support of the District Forest Office, Chitwan and Green Forest Program is set to conduct the study of the world’s critically endangered species, Pangolins, at different districts including Chitwan.
The study will be carried out from Kayerkhola to Bhandara block of Chitwan. With an objective of making conservation area for pangolins, the study is going to be conducted after the brief research on the situation of pangolins.
Santosh Bhattarai, Investigation Officer of National Trust for Nature Conservation, Sauraha informed that the study will be carried out in Chitwan in the beginning and later in Makwanpur and Gorkha districts. He also mentioned that a camera trapping team has been deployed in the jungle for the research.
Out of eight species of pangolins found in the world, only two species are found in Nepal. Pangolins also known as scaly anteaters is one of the most illegally traded species on the earth which is on the verge of extinction. They are killed for their meat and scales and traded at an expensive price in international market.
