Nepal Entrepreneurs’ Hub concludes Global Startup Weekend Kathmandu: Women, Girls and SDGs

Kathmandu, February 19, 2018: Nepal Entrepreneurs’ Hub (NEHUB) in collaboration with World Vision’s Nepal Innovation Lab, has successfully concluded its 12th edition of Startup Weekend titled ‘Global Startup Weekend Kathmandu: Women, Girls and SDGs’ at  Nepal Innovation Lab, Lagankhel. With the motive of empowering women in the field of business, the program ran for 3 days starting from February 16 to February 18, 2018. The final event concluded at Alliance Francaise Kathmandu, Jhamsikhel on February 18.

The 54-hours session aimed to provide a platform for female innovators that have targeted solutions for humanitarian and development challenges in the sectors of any of the seventeen Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set by the United Nations.

50 participants from various parts had participated in this program. The participants had been engaged in various activities and were trained by specialized trainees. They had been divided into 10 groups – each consisting of 5 participants and were allowed to pitch on related topics. A representative from each group was required to deliver their final pitch within 5 minutes and accordingly the judges would ask them questions for 3 minutes.

The top three ideas selected in the finale were – Nanny for your Nani, BioPad, and Saksham. The team leaders of these ideas were Aishwarya Pradhan, Vibhustuti Thapa, and Sneha Shakya respectively. Out of the three ideas, ‘Nanny for your Nani’ was selected as the best idea and has qualified itself to participate in the global competition to be held in Paris.

The judges for the finale were Raveena Desraj Shrestha, Assistant Deputy CEO of Mega Bank Nepal Ltd., Renaud Meyer, Country Director of UNDP Nepal and Elizabeth Satow, National Director of World Vision International Nepal.

Based on their presentation, delivery, and ideology, the judges ranked them. The winning team will be qualified to participate in the global competition to be held in Paris, France on March 2 to March 18 on the occasion of Women’s Day.

Nepal Entrepreneurs Hub (NEHUB) is a non-profit organization committed to promoting entrepreneurship, support startup communities, contribute towards entrepreneurial ecosystem and facilitate investment in small and medium enterprises. Until now, NEHUB has organized 11 Startup Weekends, 18 Spark Talk and Meetups, 5 Impact Hackathons and numerous coaching and mentoring sessions.

World Vision’s Nepal Innovation Lab is a branch of World Vision International’s Earthquake response. The branch was established with the motive to contribute to the national recovery and to deliver effective, high quality and community-driven responses to the affected sectors.
