Kathmandu,3 April 2015: After the publication of notice in Nepal Gazette, the government declaration to impose a ban on use of plastic bags in the capital city is being fully implemented from April 14 (the first day of 2073 BS).
In a bid to keep the capital city clean and pollution free, the use and production of plastic bags of less than 40 micron would be prohibited.
The notice to this effect has been published in Nepal Gazette on April 1.
According to Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Science Technology and Environment Mahendra Man Gurung, the producers of the plastic bags are allowed to produce the plastic bags that don’t harm to the environment or that are thicker than 40 micron.
Saying that the industrialists and businesspersons did not turn up at the meetings despite the Ministry approached them many times, Gurung urged all to unite in the greater campaign of environment conservation.
