Ms. Hajuri Bista is one of the pioneers in women entrepreneurship. She is also known as “The Pickle Lady”. She is the proprietor of Hajuri Khadya Udhyog, a famous name in the Nepali pickle market and one of the leading producers/sellers of pickles in the country.
Hajuri Bista’s journey from housewife to entrepreneur and the idea to produce hygienic, natural Nepali-style pickles clicked after attending a food processing training from Women Entrepreneurs Association of Nepal (WEAN). Ms.Bista owns the pickle brands, `Navaras´ and `Kitchen Recipe´ and both brands specialize in producing pickles of Nepali taste. She is Vice-Chairperson of the WEAN Co- operative.
She is a famous entrepreneur who transformed the chore of concocting pickles within the confines of her kitchen into a full-fledged business venture. She has served as an inspiration for many women entrepreneurs. She believes that empowering women will empower an entire family and that, in turn, will empower the society and nation.
She has received the ‘Women Management Recognition Award’, from the Management Association of Nepal. In 2003, she was felicitated with ‘Woman Entrepreneur of the Year’ awarded by Laxmi Bank.
Ms. Bista wants to be recognized, however, not only as a business woman but as a social entrepreneur, as she feels that she has always given back to society what she learned and gained during her venture. And, indeed, Navaras has become a household name for quality pickles in Nepal.
