Chameliya Hydropower In Slow Progress

Bhimduttanagar, June 29, 2015: Construction work of the Chameliya Hydropower Project which was delayed has added to uncertainty to the completion period of the project.

The project of 30 megawatt situated at Balach in Shikhar VDC-4 of Darchula district is stopped for long.

The total cost of the project is estimated Rs.15.6 billion though the project was targeted to complete with the investments of Rs 8.5 billion in the initial phase, said the official.

As per the fresh schedule, a joint coordination working committee consisting representatives of civil and electro mechanical contractors, Nepal Electricity Authority and consultant companies has targeted to complete the construction work by March 2016. Earlier, the agreement was signed to complete the project in 2011 after beginning the construction works in 2007.

The residents of the far-west are expected to take benefit from the project as the project is to generate 180 million unit electricity annually.
