New York,29 October,2014: Following the death of bassist Jack Bruce, Eric Clapton has shared an instrumental ballad called “For Jack” that he recorded in tribute to his former Cream bandmate. The sweet, reflective two-and-a-half minute instrumental finds Clapton strumming softly on an acoustic guitar and harmonizing alongside a singer who isn’t there. It’s likely hard for Clapton to put into words the loss of his Rock and Roll Hall of Fame bandmate, but “For Jack” does the job in its own way.

Clapton posted the track on his Facebook page, where he wrote of Bruce, “He was a great musician and composer, and a tremendous inspiration to me.” Cream drummer Ginger Baker also said in a statement that was posted by his official fan club, “I am very sad to learn of the loss of a fine man, Jack Bruce… My thoughts & wishes are with his family at this difficult time.”

Bruce passed away October 25th surrounded by family after what has been reported as a bout with liver disease. He was 71. “The world of music will be a poorer place without him, but he lives on in his music and forever in our hearts,” the Bruce family said in a statement. Earlier this year, Bruce released what would be his final studio album, Silver Rails. “I quite like to just enjoy my life. I’m thrilled to make this album. I put my heart and soul into it, and I’m very pleased with the way it came out,” Bruce told Rolling Stone of his new album in April.
