Tulasipur (Dang),15 Dec 2014: The Fourth National Conference of Badi women has begun at Ghorahi in Dang district.

The conference is jointly organised by National Badi Women Rights Struggle Committee and Dalit Women Unity Centre, Dang.

The two-day conference will hold extensive discussions on the previous agreements, the decisions taken by the government in favour of Badi women and its implementation situation.

Badi women from more than 15 districts are participating in the conference. The inaugural session of the conference was held under the chair of Chairperson of Dalit Women Unity Centre, Nirmala Kumari Gupta where lawmaker Anita Devkota was the chief guest.

On the occasion, lawmaker Devkota said that she was committed to ensure rights of Badi community.

She expressed commitment that she from her side would take initiatives for the implementation of agreements signed between the Badi community and the government.

Similarly, most Badi women expressed sadness over the non-implementation of the previous agreements signed between them and the State on the issues of their rights and development and complained that they have been deprived of different services and facilities provided by the government for lack of implementation of agreements.

Chairperson of the National Badi Women Rights Struggle Committee, Jahara Badi, demanded the rights and history of marginalized community be mentioned in the new constitution, saying they have also been facing discrimination from the State.

Badi women expressed sadness, saying people still use such world which hurt their self-esteem.

Likewise, people from different sectors expressed commitment to help for the establishment of rights of Badi community.

Before the inaugural session, Badi women organised a rally in Ghorahi bazaar. The conference will issue the Dang Declaration on the concluding day.
