Free kidney transplant services soon : Minister Thapa

Kathmandu, March 9, 2017: Health Minister Gagan Thapa on Thursday said that the government is preparing to provide free transplant services to kidney patients.

Speaking at a program organized by the Nepal Kidney Foundation to mark the Kidney Day in Kathmandu Minister Thapa said the preparations are underway to provide free kidney transplant services to patients from April.

The announcement from the minister comes after the government’s move to bear cost of dialysis in four dozens of government and private hospitals.

“We are planning to provide free kidney transplant soon,” said Minister Thapa.

The minister suggested all the people to adopt preventive measures to save kidney so that the state will have to bear less financial burden to health sector.

“We are providing free dialysis services for kidney services and transplant service is also going to be free of cost. That only is not the solution to keep the people healthy,” said the minister Thapa, “Our people also should adopt preventive measures as well”

At the function, Dr. Shakti Basnet stressed on need of regular health check up and preventive measures.
