May 3, 2015: To help earthquake victims, youths involve in relief campaign through free SMS helpline where people can ask for help by texting their location and requirements.
Sparrow SMS created free SMS helpline service and provided relief materials like tents, rice, lentils, beaten rice, medicines in low prices to the people in affected areas. They are getting the materials from people and also buying the relief materials on their own cost.
According to source, they are getting volunteers through internet and St Xaviers college to mobilize resources as they don’t have own volunteers.
Till now Sparrow SMS have send the relief materials to various places in Kathmandu valley and planning to send relief materials to Sindupalchowk and Gorkha but due to poor road conditions they are unable to do that. They distributed 49 blankets, 5 tents, 45 packets of noodle, 48 packets of biscuits, 46 packets of 2 kg bitten rice, 50 surgical mask, and 50 pairs of gloves to Earthquake Victims at Pakwangtol, Dadhikot.
“People are giving positive response to them on doing relief campaign. The involvement of youth is great, without their involvement it would be impossible for us to do this campiangn and are well supported by St. Xavier’s College, Maitighar, Janaki Technology Pvt. Ltd. and Association of Youth Organizations Nepal (AYON) . †said Manish Modi, director of Sparrow SMS.
“The difficulty is to get enough relief materials and unable to buy materials like tents as most of the shops in kathmandu is closed and scarcity of tents too.†Modi added talking to Glocal Khabar. They are conducting health camps in various places as soon as possible.
