Kathmandu, June 30, 2016: The government is all set to install Advance Passenger Information System (APIS) at Tribhuvan International Airport to find information about Nepal-bound passengers.

Immigration Department’s Director General Kedar Neupane said that this system is being installed to get pre-information about foreigners travelling to Nepal.

After installing this system Nepali authorities will get to know about any traveller coming to Nepal from any corner of the world. It will help authorities to immediately arrest and investigate anyone involved in or accused of a crime.

Some foreigners have been found to have hidden or spent time in Nepal after committing a crime in their countries. But authorities have been unable to nab them in the airport in lack of prior information.

It takes time and resources to locate the person once they escape the airport. Authorities believe that with installation of this system, these problems will disappear.

“After putting this system in place we will get information about any person flying to Nepal from international airport and we will make necessary preparation for his arrest,” Yadav Prasad Koirala, Home Ministry Spokesperson, said.

Many countries have adopted this system. Persons served the red corner notice by the Interpol cannot enter the country after implementing the system.
