Kathmandu, Jan 18: The Press Chautari Nepal staged a vigil at New Baneshwor today to exert pressure for the promulgation of new constitution along with complete press freedom on time.
At the programme, President of the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ), Dr Mahendra Bista, demanded to end the dispute as it has been surfaced among political parties at a time when January 22, the determined date to promulgate the new constitution, is coming closer.
Bista also urged political parties to promulgate the new constitution even after holding Constituent Assembly (CA) meeting continuously after Jan 22.
Similarly, Chautari Central Chairman Rajendra Aryal urged lawmakers to work round-the-clock to exert pressure to bring the new statute on time.
Aryal said political parties should be serious towards dissatisfaction among people.
Chairman of the All Nepal National Free Students Union, Kishor Bikram Malla, warned that students would take to the streets again if the new constitution was not promulgated.
Likewise, General Secretary of the Youth Federation Nepal, Rajeev Pahadi, said that CA Chairman Subas Nembang should play a decisive role to promulgate the new constitution through voting process if consensus was not forged on the disputed issues of new constitution.
Shiva Adhikari, General Secretary of Professional’s Alliance for Peace and Democracy, Chairman of Progressive Legal Practitioners’ Organisation, Ram Kumar Shrestha, among others expressed solidarity to the gathering.
Meanwhile, Kathmandu chapter of Chautari, today submitted a memorandum to CA Chairman Nembang through Chief District Officer of Kathmandu, Eknarayan Aryal, demanding promulgation of the new constitution on time.
