They said that the country heading towards a confrontation was not good and a new constitution should be promulgated on the basis of consensus.

The ruling and opposition parties remain divided after the formulation of questionnaire committee in the Constituent Assembly (CA).

The civil society leaders have said that the UCPN (Maoist) had the responsibility of completing the constitution drafting process and the ruling parties also should not be guided by the arrogance of a majority as they were the signatories of the 12-point agreement.

At the same time, Unified Maoist Chairman Dahal telephoned Prime Minister Sushil Koirala and CPN UML chairman KP Sharma Oli and urged them to scrap the questionnaire committee to take the constitution drafting process ahead, said civil society leader Dr Dixit.

In response to Dahal’s request over the telephone, UML chair Oli said that they would soon begin a dialogue in this connection.
