Intl Folk Music Film Festival begins in kathmandu

Kathmandu, 28 Nov 2014: The 4th International Folk Music Film Festival began in the capital on Friday.

The festival organized by the Nepali Folk Musical Instrument Museum aims to preserve the Nepali folk music, musical instruments, dance, culture, tradition, and life through research, and publicizing them across the globe, said coordinator of the festival organizing committee Ram Prasad Kandel.

The Festival has been organized with an objective to preserve and promote the typical Nepali folk culture and arts, as well as drawing recognition of the international community, he added.
The festival organized at Sarbanam Theatre, Dillibazar, in the capital has the major theme ‘Music for life and music for survival’.

As many as 45 folk films of different 20 countries from Asia, Australia, Africa, South America, North America and Europe would be screened in the festival. Top six films would be awarded.

The organizer is scheduled to honour folk music researcher Chandra Kala Shah with the ‘Life Time Achievement Award’, said Kandel.
