Kathmandu,5 Dec 2014: The Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) has today honoured women volunteers of 21 different districts at a programme organised here on the occasion of Women Volunteers’ Day.

Those honoured are Sharmila Ghimire (Lamjung), Jayantidevi Rai (Rautahat), Chameli Waiba (Makawanpur), Asha Gharti (Banke), Bimala Dev (Saptari), Tara Dahal (Bhojpur) and Bhimadevi Sharma (Baglung), among others.

Secretary at the Ministry Shanta Bahadur Shrestha honoured the women volunteers. They were honoured in recognition of their works in the health sector.

The Women Volunteer Programme is initiated since 2045 BS for different health related activities including imparting knowledge about permanent family planning, safe motherhood and distributing iron tablets.

According to the Ministry’s statistics, now there are 52,000 women volunteers in the country.
