One Student for One Illiterate Campaign Begins to Eradicate Illiteracy

Kanchanpur, March 2,2015: In an effort to eliminate illiteracy, the District Education Office has launched the ‘one student for one illiterate’ programme in the district.
The DEO has mobilized 2,000 students of grade nine from different 29 schools to end the illiteracy. Assistant District Education Officer, Padamraj Bhatta, said as per the campaign each student must make literate to at least one person.
The DEO has collected the data on how many people are illiterate in the district. As per the data, there are a total of 7,305 women illiterate while the number of such male is low- 2,804.
In the first phase, as many as 2,000 people would be made able to read and write.
For this, a student in the mobilization receives 15 marks out of 25 in the practical subjects- education and health. The campaign is launched in all VDCs and five municipalities of the district.
Earlier, the DEO was continuing the literacy class through the informal education with the supports from non-government organizations and the community study centres.
