NHRC writes to implement report on same sex marriage

Kathmandu, February 11, 2016: The government was asked to implement the Supreme Court’s directive and the report prepared on the same sex marriage by The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC).
The NHRC has kept in touch with the administration to execute the SC’s decision issued on December 21, 2007 and the report submitted to the administration a year ago concerning the sexual minorities.
The government was urged to implement the SC verdict and report, said NHRC Officer Basudev Bajgain.
Speaking at the concluding ceremony of the first national workshop on intersex, Bajgain said that discrimination against intersex within the sexual minorities was disappointing.
Nonetheless, he conceded that the NHRC was attempting to guarantee privileges of same sex and third sex however there is not sufficient data on intersex
Under Secretary at the Ministry of Women, Children and Social Welfare Bharat Sharma, representative of UNICEF Upama Malla, executive director of Blue Diamond Society Manisha Dhakal and others expressed their opinion for the rights of the sexual minorities.
