President, PM, Top Leaders Extend Greetings On Nepal Sambat 1135

Kathmandu, Oct 24.2014: President Dr Ram Baran Yadav has extended greetings to all Nepali brothers and sisters on the occasion of Nepal Sambat 1135 wishing happiness, peace and progress.

In a message today, President Yadav expressed hope that the festival would help increase tolerance, social unity and goodwill among the Nepalis and prove successful in enhancing the sentiment of mutual understanding and brotherhood.

The President said it was the paramount duty of all Nepalis to protect the nation, nationality and its dignity with the feeling of pride over the country’s independent history.

He further extended wishes for motivation in achieving social stability and progress with the people able to move ahead in the path of peace and prosperity in the backdrop of promulgation of a new constitution from the Constituent Assembly.

Likewise, Prime Minister Sushil Koirala has extended greetings to all Nepali brothers and sisters living at home and abroad wishing a good health, long life, happiness, peace, prosperity and progress.

Recounting the contribution made by national icon Shankhadhar Shakhwa on the occasion of Nepal Sambat – the traditional Sambat of the country – PM Koirala said the government led by Nepali Congress had honoured Shakhwa as the national icon in 2056 BS.

In a message today, PM Koirala said a new government was formed through a democratic process as a result of impartially held second Constituent Assembly with people’s maximum participation in a fearless and peaceful environment.

PM said the country had been successful in making headway in constitution making through consensus, coordination, unity and reconciliation between the political parties and heralding peace, stability, development of institutional democracy and development of socio-economics in par.

“We are promulgating a new constitution embodying federalism, republic and inclusiveness in the stipulated time to institutionalize Nepali civilians’ struggle and agitation and democratic achievements,” PM said adding, “Then in the peaceful environment we will forge together foreign and national investment to give more pace to development.”

PM Koirala further extended wishes that the new year of Nepal Sambat would encourage all holding responsible positions to work for the interest of the nation and citizens, and their peace and prosperity.

Similarly, CPN (UML) Chairman KP Sharma Oli has extended greetings on the occasion of Nepal Sambat 1135 wishing for motivation to realize the dream of prosperity held by the Nepali people.

In a message, Oli mentioned that Nepal Sambat, started on the foundation of people’s confidence and by waiving off the debts taken by farmers of Kathmandu valley, had its own originality and specialty.

He also extended wishes that the festivals would provide motivation to move forward on the path of political consensus, unity and traditional belief so as to fulfill the common resolution to promulgate a new constitution by January 22, and propel the country on the path of political stability, lasting peace, strengthened democracy and socio-economic prosperity.

Likewise, UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal said that Nepal Sambat was Nepal’s first traditional Sambat started by the people.

Extending greetings on the occasion of Nepal Sambat 1135, Dahal said that the Sambat being marked amidst preparations to draft a new constitution would open a door to a new era.

Dahal expressed joy at the initiative from the people’s level to establish Nepal Sambat as the country’s traditional Sambat. He added that Nepal Sambat was started by national icon Shankerdhar Shakhwa 1135 years ago through social service.

In the message Dahal said, “It is a symbol of people’s struggle and pride. I extend wishes that the new year of the traditional Sambat may provide motivation for special efforts from all to play their respective role for a people oriented and transformative constitution during the constitution making process.
