Kathmandu, Jan 21: Vice-chairperson of the CPN (UML) Bidhya Devi Bhandari has said the new constitution should be promulgated even going for the Constituent Assembly (CA) procedure if the effort for forging political consensus fails.
Speaking at a press meeting organized by Joint Women’s Association Struggle Committee here today, she said the nation should not be made the prisoner of indecision any more instead the Constitution should be promulgated through the CA procedure.
Bhandari, who is also Chairperson of the All Nepal Women’s Association said, “The constitution should be promulgated by forwarding the disputed issues of the constitution on the basis of the interim constitution, CA act and regulation to respect the public mandate.”
UML leader Bhandari also condemned the vandalism attempt to attack against CA Chairman Subash Chandra Nembang, and attack against the UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli at the Monday’s CA meeting.
Bhandari said, “An attempt to attack against CA Chairman with shoes and microphone by some Madhes based political parties were uncivilized, apolitical, and shameful ones while claiming CA Chairman Nembang has been making optimum efforts to promulgate constitution through consensus.
Similarly, Chairperson of the Nepal Women’s Union Dr Dina Sangraula also condemned the attack against CA Chairman Nembang and claimed it as the Unified CPN (Maoist)’s and Madhesi Forum’s effort to weaken the democracy.
She said people’s dream to write constitution from the CA were broken as lawmakers of one of the biggest political party in the CA violated the political norms, values, and discipline of the CA. The acts were beyond the limits.
The Committee has been preparing to organize various programmes to exert pressure for promulgating the constitution in time.
