Beni (Myagdi),7 Nov 2014: Tourists and locals visiting the upper Mustang area have been facing problem for lack of necessary medicines.

Although sub-health posts are established at Chhoser, Chhonhup and Surkhang VDCs in upper Mustang, they are facing the problem as the sub-health posts lack necessary infrastructures and medicines.

According to Lomathang Health Post, tourists visiting the high land in the district face the same problem for lack of oxygen every year.

Tourists visit the upper Mustang via Jomsom and Manang. Some of the tourists return without visiting the area as they suffer from high altitude sickness for lack of medicines.

Thousands of tourists visit Lomathang VDC every year and most of them were found suffering from high altitude sickness, said a local Gyaltung Gurung. The VDC is around 3,720 high from sea level.

Around 20 domestic and foreign tourists, suffering from cold, visit the Lomanthang Health Post every day.

Health workers said they have been compelled to refer patients suffering from common diseases for lack of medicines and oxygen.
