The N-Peace Awards are looking for candidates to be nominated for the latest iteration of the prize

Nominations are now being called for the 2017 N-Peace Awards. The Awards “recognize individuals who work on women, peace and security by profiling, documenting and highlighting their work and achievements”. They are intended to further the cause of peace, gender equality, equal participation, and empowerment of women. This year’s seven participating countries include Indonesia, Nepal, Pakistan, Myanmar, The Philippines, Afghanistan, and Sri Lanka.

Since its inception in 2011, several Nepalis have won the N-Peace Award. In 2016, for her work in advancing the rights of ex-bonded laborers, particularly women and girls, Basanti Chaudhary—a young leader from the Tharu community hailing from a family of former bonded laborers herself—had won the award from Nepal in the Untold Stories category. This category focuses on sharing the stories of women who work at the grassroots level in conflict resolution, prevention and peace building in their communities.

Nominees who meet the criteria will have their profiles shared online. The public will then be invited to cast their votes online. The top three candidates who receive the most votes from each category will be screened by a high-level panel of experts. The ones that meet the criteria the most will be the N-Peace Awardees for 2017.

Nominate your peace hero by submitting your Nomination Form via e-mail to n-peace@undp.org by 30 April 2017.
