Algiers, April 10, 2015: 4 armed Islamists were killed by Algerian troops. All of them were shot in Oued Ouakser which is nearly 40 kilometres west of Algiers as per a statement.
They found weapons and ammunition on Thursday during an operation not far from the capital as reported by the defence ministry. They recovered a pistol, 2 rifles, explosives, radios, mobile telephones and a pair of chains.
Terrorism of Islamists in Algeria has been reduced significantly since the civil war of the 1990s. However, units linked to Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb still attack mostly on security forces.
According to the army, more than 100 armed Islamists were killed in 2014.
