Basanta Gauchan starts coaching in Japan

Kathmandu, June 24, 2016: Former Nepal international player Basanta Gauchan has started professional football coaching career from Funroots Football Academy in Japan.

Funroots Football Academy, a professional academy of Japan, has a tie up with German ‘A’ Division outfit Borussia Dortmund, who run academy and football school in Japan. Dortmund also send coaches to train youth players of Funroots Academy.

Gauchan, who is an instructor of the coaches who train school students, also provides training to kids at Puma Soccer Club, Chofu Ochuka School Team and Komajawa Soccer Club, the sister clubs of Funroots Academy. Gauchan, the member of the silver medal winning national team in the eighth SAF Games in Kathmandu in 1999, receives Rs 5.5m as salary for these jobs.

“To get attached with this academy is an opportunity for me as European coaches frequently visit to provide training to the players,” said Gauchan. “Apart from that, senior coaches and former Japan internationals also come to provide training to the academy players. And I also get to learn a lot of things,” Gauchan added. “I have taken this job as a challenge. And I am confident of completing the job without trouble as I have represented Nepal national team in the past and also hold AFC ‘B’ License,” said Gauchan, who underwent AFC course and European course in 2012.

Gauchan also worked as a volunteer coach at the FC Mabashi for two years until 2014 and also provided training at JSPA Football Academy. Gauchan thanked Funroots Academy owner Jun Hirano for entrusting him for the job. Gauchan and Hirano had come to Nepal earlier this year and they took Western Region team to Copa Puma Toreros Festival held in Tokyo in April.
