Kathmandu, February 20, 2017: Nepalese Youth for Climate Action (NYCA), a youth-led coalition of the Nepalese youth and youth groups tackling climate change, the biggest challenge of our generation, is all set to organize the fifth National Youth Conference on Climate Change (NYCCC).
Established on August 10, 2008 with the motto of “Caring for Climate, Caring for Ourselvesâ€, NYCA has successfully organized National Youth Conference on climate change I, II, III, and IV on 2008, 2010, 2012 and 2014 respectively, including 5 regional youth summits in 2009. These national and regional youth summits were instrumental in bringing youths together in the same platform to discuss on climate change. This year again, NYCA has come up with an aim to empower young people within Kathmandu valley through the 5th National Youth Conference on Climate Change.
“The sole purpose organizing this conference is awaring and empowering diverse youth and youth groups on climate change,†informed Jasmita Khadgi, Network Coordinator at NYCA. “Young people today are growing up with effects of climate change. So, they need the information and skills to communicate their stand on climate change,†she added. Khadgi further shared that the young generation has strong social and environmental awareness, the energy and knowledge that can lead our societies towards a low carbon and climate resilient future. “And, most importantly, they are always taken in a positive way to push local and central governments to mainstream climate change in development process and planning,†she said about the purpose of organizing the conference solely focusing on youths.
