Lahan, 29th December : Stakeholders of Siraha, Saptari and Sunsari districts in the presence of Minister for Urban Development and lawmakers have expressed commitment to making their respective districts open-defecation free zone within the next two years.

 

At the concluding ceremony of the Tarai Madhes Sanitation Promotion Workshop at Kushaha in Saptari district on Sunday evening, the stakeholders

collectively expressed the commitment to make their districts open-defecation free zone within 2017 as the sanitation is linked with health, civilization, education and prosperity of the country.

 

They expressed commitment to declare Siraha and Sunsari as open-defecation free zone within 2015 and Saptari within 2016.

 

At the workshop organised by the National Sanitation Coordination Committee, representatives and chiefs of district-based social organisations, civil society and political parties presented strategies by holding separate district-based discussions.

 

On the occasion, Minister Khadka said that the government would launch a special campaign for the sanitation in Tarai and Madhes which is in backward in view of sanitation.

 

Minister Khadka further said that the government was serious as people of some districts in Tarai region including Siraha have been deprived of clean drinking water and necessary works are underway for the immediate arrangement of drinking water facility.

 

Lawmakers Ram Chandra Yadav, Tejulal Chaudhary, Surendra Prasad Yadav, Usha Yadav, Asha Yadav, Bhanu Mahara,  office-bearers of different organisations working the field of sanitation, representatives of different political parties,  among others were present in the workshop.
