Kathmandu, 7 April, 2015 : Normal life has been adversely affected due to a general strike called by the 30-Party Alliance led by the UCPN (Maoist).
Clashes have taken place between the banda enforcers and police at different parts in Kathmandu valley after the banda enforcers tried to shut down markets, educational institutions as well as the traffic forcefully.
The Alliance has called a three-day general strike to exert pressure on the ruling parties for the promulgation of new constitution through consensus.
The banda enforcers have set the taxi (Ba 1 Ja 1877) belonging to Niraj Baniya on fire at Koteshwor and vandalized a vegetable-loaded vehicle at Buddhanagar.
Spokesperson at the Office of the Metropolitan Police, Senior Superintendent of Police Narayan Singh Khadka told the National News Agency (RSS) that police arrested 18 persons of the 30-party Alliance from different places of Kathmandu valley till afternoon.
A large number of security personnel have been deployed to curb any untoward incident from the banda enforcers while the agitators have gathered and chanting different slogans to make the general strike a success.
Likewise, passengers have stranded and are compelled to reach the destinations on foot due to traffic halt following the general strike.
Some banda enforcers and four police personnel were injured in a clash after the banda enforcers pelted stones on police vehicles at New Baneshwor and Bijuli Bazaar area.
