Local bodies elections by mid-June: PM Koirala

sushil koirala 1Kathmandu, Mar 30: Prime Minister Sushil Koirala has pledged to hold local bodies elections by the end of Nepali month of Jestha (mid-June).

Speaking at a press conference organised in Nepalgunj by Press Union on Sunday, Prime Minister Koirala said the government is currently working on amending the Election Act in order to hold the local body polls.

Prime Minister Koirala further stated that holding local elections and drafting a constitution within an year is the government’s major priorities. He further went on to say that no any force will now be able to obstruct the process of constitution writing.

“Constitution, lasting peace, development and stability is the demand of time,” he said. “International community and donor agencies are waiting for the politics to stabilize in the country in order to invest exclusively on development projects.”

Prime Minister Koirala also pledged to finalise the appointment of 26 lawmakers and other constitutional appointments in no more than a week.

On a different note, PM Koirala said investment in hydropower projects could ensure development and employment opportunities for youth at the same time. He said the Sikta Irrigation Project of the government in Banke would be completed in two years. He pledged to resolve the recent obstruction in the ongoing works at the Sikta Irrigation Project.
