Tulasipur (Dang), Jan 19: Although it has been 20 years since Tulasipur, Dang was declared a municipality, many areas of this municipality are still facing problems in availing basic amenities, drinking water for one.

Many areas here run short of potable water. People in six VDCs in this municipality, for instance Prabatkot, have to walk miles away to fetch water from the local streams, owing to lack of reliable source.

Locals in Parbatkot, sharing their water woe, said that they have been deprived of water, electricity, education and health services although their place has been declared municipality for twenty years now.

Khim Bahadur Karki, a local, added that many villages here have one well each which dries up in the winter while the water here gets murky in the monsoon. That is why people walk to the nearby stream.

People from households apart, pupils in local schools are also facing problems due to the shortage of potable water,

Students and the school staffers at the only primary school in Pratabkot, Pratabkot Primary School, are also feeling difficulty due to the unavailability of water.

Students defecate in the open since the toilets in the school are inoperative owing to the shortage of water.

Municipality officials admit that the development works are lagging behind in some places in the municipality due to the lack of budget and geographical remoteness.
