Kathmandu, 18 September 2015: Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Bamdev Gautam said that he was happy that long-held aspirations of the people for the new constitution are going to be fulfilled. The new constitution was passed, with two-third majority, by the Constituent Assembly (CA) on Wednesday, ensuring promulgation of the constitution. Emerging from the CA hall in New Baneshwor in the capital today after signing the draft constitution, DPM Gautam told media persons that it was a matter of honour to be able to address the aspirations and wishes of the people.

“The new constitution has embraced wishes and aspirations of the people, which is a big achievement. The country has taken a new direction and it is the need of the hour to move ahead, institutionalising the achievements made so far,” said Gautam. Likewise, Krishna Bahadur Mahara, general secretary of UCPN (Maoist), stressed on the need for all to accept the constitution as it was being promulgated after eight-year long efforts. He said that people have got various political achievements through the new constitution and urged all to become active for additional achievements.
“The new constitution has institutionalized the spirits of various past democratic movements like the decade-long People’s War, which is a great achievement,” he said. A campaign to sign the constitution draft by lawmakers is underway in the CA hall. Started from the morning the campaign ended at 3 pm today.
