Dadeldhura, 4th January, 2015 : The fire that broke out at the Dadeldhura headquarters after Saturday midnight has come under control after 11 hours’ battle and inflicting an estimated loss of billions of rupees.

 

The fire which broke out after midnight on Saturday from a shop at the central part of the bazaar at the heart of the district destroyed a total of 14 shops, a warehouse including six houses. The fire was tamed at 11 am on Sunday.

The District Administration Office Dadeldhura has formed a taskforce following an all-party meeting on Sunday. “The loss is enormous,” Chief District Officer Shivraj Joshi said, adding, “A team has been formed under the coordination of the Assistant CDO to find out the accurate details of the loss.”

 

An initial investigation from the police has shown that the fire may have been caused due to a short circuit. The fire brigades from Amargadhi municipality Dadeldhura, Dasharathchandra municipality Baitadi and Dipayal Silgadhi municipality Doti were used to control the fire. Nepal Army, Nepal Police and Armed Police Force personnel and the local residents also took part in controlling the fire. Two dozers were also used to tame the fire.

 

“The fire came under control after extensive use of fire engines, security personnel and dozers,” said DSP Yogendra Bahadur Thapa, adding, “The initiative taken by the local residents also helped in controlling the fire.”

 

However, eye witness account attributed the cause of the fire to explosion of a gas cylinder. The difficulty of controlling the spreading fire was aggravated by explosion of a series of gas cylinders.

 

No human casualties were reported.
