Ilam, Jan 21: The government-coalition parties and locals organised a peace rally in Ilam demanding promulgation of new constitution.

The rally was organised calling to promulgate the new constitution as per the people’s mandate. Representatives of the Nepali Congress, CPN (UML) and different organisations, students, locals were present in the rally.

The rally started from Chowkbazaar converged into a corner meeting after reaching the same place, passing through different places including Narayansthan and Dhobidhara.

On the occasion, different people including Madan Khadka of the Bar Association and President of Ilam Chamber of Commerce and Industry; Sushila Sapkota, the All Nepal National Free Students Union District Chairperson; Rabindra Subedi, the Tarun Dal District President; Naresh Shrestha, protested the general strike and demanded promulgation of a federal democratic constitution.

They also urged all bodies concerned not to call any strikes as the SLC examinations are drawing closer.

Sapkota stressed on the need of searching for an alternative to the general strike as it results in millions of rupees of loss in a day in lost business transactions.
