President Yadav Surveyed Tribhuvan University (TU)

Kathmandu, May 27: The earthquake damage at the Tribhuvan University (TU) was observed by President Dr Ram Baran Yadav, today.

The President surveyed around the TU Central Office, the Central Library and other structures damaged by earthquake and acquired information on the extent of the damage. Similarly, during the observation the President was accompanied by Education Minister and TU Pro-Chancellor Chitra Lekha Yadav, the Education Secretary Bishwa Prasad Pandit, Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Hira Bahadur Maharjan, Officiating Registrar Devraj Adhikari and other officials.

President Yadav after the inspection said that the university authorities should resume the regular activities by adopting alternative measures though the earthquake has caused much damage to physical properties of the country’s oldest university. Also, the Head of State stressed on resumption of the university’s activities in a way it does not spoil its operational calendar.

Although many educational institutions have been damaged by the earthquak, the Ministry of Education is working towards the regular resumption of educational programmes, said Education Minister Yadav. Even, TU Vice Chancellor Maharjan said that the earthquake has caused much damage at Tribhuvan University and setting up an internal fund the university was planning to carry out the reconstruction of the damaged infrastructures.

He added that worth Rs 150 million has set up a seed fundf or the reconstruction by the University and further fund would be collected by deducting one month’s salary of the University office-bearers and the chiefs of different bodies and divisions, 10 days’ salary of the officer level and other staffs and five days’ salary of the staff below the rank of the officer level.
