Parties urged to bring constitution on time

Kathmandu, Oct 21: Constitutional-Political Dialogue and Consensus Committee member Laxman Lal Karna today urged the parties concerned to hold agreement on contentious issues at the earliest and be serious towards promulgating the new constitution by coming January 22. They do not want procrastination further.

At the meeting of the Constituent Assembly, CPDCC member Karna speaking on behalf of its Chairman Dr Baburam Bhattarai, lent his support to the call of the lawmakers’ directed at the parties to resolve the outstanding disputes through consensus or the voting process.

Karna apprised the session of the consistent efforts aimed at reaching an agreement over the issues of state restructuring, form of governance, judiciary as well as the election system. The meeting also deliberated on the Committee’s report submitted by its member Karna.

During the meeting, lawmakers Hitraj Pandey, Rajan Bhattarai, Sushil Kumar Bhattarai, Bharat Kumar Khadka, Bikash Lamsal, Dhaniram Poudel, Karna Bahadur Thapa, Navindraraj Joshi among others stressed that the commitment to draft the constitution on January 22 should remain unyielding. The lawmakers further emphasized that the aspirations of the people underlined the vital essence of agreement, coordination and unity in drafting the new constitution.
