Kathmandu,10 Jan 2015 : The Office of Prime Minister and Council of Ministers (PMO) on Saturday issued a directive to the stakeholders concerned to complete the ongoing road expansion drive by the end of the ongoing fiscal year.

The road expansion drive in the Kathmandu valley was long overdue. The directive has come after a monitoring of the various sites in Kathmandu after having found that the re-construction of the roads in a sorry state.

A team comprising the officials of the PMO, Ministry of Urban development, Federal Affairs and Local Development, Division of Roads, Kathmandu Valley Town Development Authority and Nepal Electricity Authority, among others carried out the monitoring.

The PMO has directed the stakeholders to manage the maze of old wires entangled in the old poles alongside the roads at Lainchaur, Shorakhutte and Balaju areas while the directive was issued to Kathmandu Valley Town Development Authority to relocate the disputed public sitting places at Shorhakutte elsewhere after the consultation with the Department of Archeology.

According to Shantaraj Subedi, the Secretary at the PMO, the office has also said to complete installation of the drinking water pipes within the timeline of a fortnight at Sorakhutte.

The PMO has also directed Physical Infrastructure and Transportation Management Ministry to intensity the installation of the drainage, drinking water pipe along the road along the Singamangal to Putalisadak road section. The PMO has also asked the Ministry to take punitive action against those dillydallying the construction works.

Secretary Sudedi also informed that the PMO has also directed to submit the progress reports.The directive also includes the protection of the physical infrastructures made in view of the 18th SAARC Summit.
