Kathmandu, Aug. 23: Speaker Subash Nembang has asked lawmakers to restrain themselves while delivering their views in the Legislature-Parliament meeting.
Speaker Nembang resorted to the move after some lawmakers reportedly expressed rage against some of their fellow lawmakers and political leaders during a parliamentary meeting today. He urged the lawmakers to exercise restraint, adding that delivering such speeches would give a negative message.
He said that to give such speeches would also go against the parliamentary regulations.
Also, Nembang directed the Constituent Assembly and the Legislature-Parliament Secretariat to remove the names of the Nepali Congress (NC) Senior Leader Sher Bahadur Deuba and CPN-UML leader Bhim Rawal from the record of the Legislature-Parliament.
Meanwhile, lawmakers from various political parties said that preparations are afoot to disrupt social harmony in the name of agitation, calling for a curb in such activities.
NC lawmaker Abdul Razzak protested an incident, where, he said, local people of Rupandehi were forced to join the on-going agitation or pay Rs 1,000 in fine.
Saying that there should not be any attempt to foil relations between the Madhesi and Pahadi in the name of an agitation, he said that attempts are on to disrupt communal harmony in Rupandehi.
Similarly, CPN-UML lawmaker Madan Kumari Sah claimed that statements from Tarai-based political leaders in Takapur in Kailali recently have disrupted social harmony and intimidated locals, urging the residents of Kailali not to resort to any actions that may disrupt social harmony.
UCPN (Maoist) lawmaker Ganesh Man Pun accused the government of suppressing a ‘peaceful agitation’ by the Nepal Federation of Indigenous Nationalities recently. He also demanded release of those arrested during the protest.
The Rastriya Janamorcha Nepal lawmaker Chitra Bahadur KC was of the view that federalism has sown seeds of unrest in the country, expressing his concern over the decision to divide Baglung while federating the country.
