Bhairahawa: A special committee formed by the Province 5 Assembly is likely to approve a proposal to rename the province as ‘Lumbini‘. Provincial Assembly has decided on the new name of the province.

The 15-member committee is preparing to submit its report to the PA. The Provincial Assembly had formed the committee 15 months ago to fix the name and headquarters of the province.

Mr. Sahasaram Yadav, member of the committee and chief whip of Samajwadi Party-Nepal said that the report would be submitted to the PA within two to three days with final suggestions.

According to him, the committee agreed to name the province and recommended Rupandehi, Kapilvastu, and Dang as alternatives for the headquarters. The committee prepared the report after visiting all 12 districts of the province and through group discussion.

The possible names recommended for headquarters are Rupandehi’s Butwal or Sainamaina, Kapilvastu’s Banganga and Buddhabhumi, Dang’s Bhaluwang or Lamahi. This recommendation will be applicable only after a two-thirds majority approval of the Provincial Assembly.

Special Committee Coordinator and Provincial Assembly member Mr. Dipendra Pun said that the winter session of PA will begin in the fourth week of December and decide the name and headquarters of the province. Members of the ruling Nepal Communist Party also know that the issue is divided.
