Kathmandu, March 7, 2017: Kathmandu-based Gangata Youth Club is organising the fourth National Level Badminton Championship at the Beni covered hall in Kalipul, Myagdi from March 22-25.

The tournament will feature men’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s singles, veteran’s doubles (above-45 year-old) and boys’ singles (U-17), informed GYC President Resham Pun at a press meet here today. Around 300 shuttlers will take part in the tournament.

The categories have been named after five landmarks of the district — Rupse, Andha Galchhi, Singa Hot, Galeshwor and Poon Hill. “We have added historical places ahead of different categories to promote tourism in the region,” said Pun.

Pun said top players have been invited for the singles categories, while the top 16 ranked players are not ineligible to participate in doubles category.

The top three pairs in men’s doubles will receive Rs 100,000, Rs 50,000 and Rs 10,000, while the men’s singles top three shuttlers will get Rs 60,000, Rs 30,000 and Rs 10,000 respectively.

Likewise, top three finishers in the women’s singles and veterans doubles events will be awarded with Rs 30,000, Rs 15,000 and Rs 5,000 respectively.

The estimated budget for the tournament is Rs 2.07 million and Hong Kong-based SR Company has agreed to sponsor the prize money of Rs 390,000, while Myagdi District Sports Development Committee will arrange the accommodation for the participants.

The tournament coordinator Biren Thapa, one of the owners of SR Company, said the company will continue its support for the tournament in coming days as well.

Similarly, Kathmandu District Badminton Association President Deepak Thapa said the sports activities organised under the club were really appreciable.
